Explain how the following weathering leads to soil formation
Oxidation
Hydration
Oxidation
Hydration
Oxidation causes those red brown coloured soils.
When oxygenated water reacts with rocks containing iron they rust and weaken crumbling into soil.
Hydration is when rock minerals absorb water and in doing so expands. When the water evaporates they dry out and shrink.
Repeated expansion & contraction eventually breaks the rock apart forming soil
